Ripon Leaves North Carolina With A Loss

October 23, 2009

Box Score

SALEM, N.C. - In the last of two games in North Carolina during their Fall Break Trip, the Red Hawks were edged 2-1 by Salem College. The game was close throughout, with the deciding goal coming on the lone score of the second half.

The scoreless tie was broken in the 26th minute, when Ripon (3-13) scored an own goal for an early 1-0 deficit. Less than a minute later though, Janel Karsten tied the game with her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

After a 1-1 halftime score, both teams came out defensive-minded in the second period. That was the theme until the 87th minute, when Kim Wisen scored for Salem (10-6-1), giving them a 2-1 lead and the victory.

Ripon's Angelica Cooper saved 10 shots for the Red Hawks, while Salem goalkeeper Jazmine Bridgeman recorded four saves. The Red Hawks were out-shot 15-8 in the game, including a 9-1 deficit in the second period.

Ripon will now head back to Wisconsin, as they'll play their final home game of the 2009 season on Tuesday against Marian University. That game will begin at 4 p.m. at Prairie Field.
