GRINNELL, Iowa - Ripon and Grinnell played evenly for much of Sunday's game, but the Pioneers managed a goal in the 53rd minute, which proved to be the difference in a 1-0 victory. Grinnell also edged Ripon in the shot department, out-shooting the Red Hawks 22-19.
After a scoreless first half, Grinnell's Cynthia Dominguez took a pass from Rachael Koester and found the net with just under 38 minutes to play for the game's only score.
Ripon goalkeeper Angelica Cooper saved nine shots on the day, while Laura McElroy saved eight. Both goalkeepers played the entire 90 minutes.
The Red Hawks will now head east for their Fall trip, as they will travel to North Carolina to take on Meredith College (N.C.) on Tuesday. That game will begin at 7 p.m.
