Ripon Holds On For Win Against MSOE

September 30, 2008

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks snapped their three game losing streak Tuesday afternoon, thanks to a 2-1 victory over MSOE at Prairie Field. Ripon got out to a 2-0 lead at halftime, and were able to hold on for the victory, despite a second half goal by the Raiders.

Ripon's Rachel Martzahl got the scoring started with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. That was followed with another Martzahl goal in the 30th minute. The second goal was assisted by Morgan Abert, who found Martzahl for her team-best sixth goal of the season, giving the Red Hawks (3-9) the lead at halftime for just the third time this season.

The second half featured a flurry of shots from MSOE (6-4), who out-shot Ripon 16-7 in the game. Twelve of their 16 shots came in the second half, including a goal in the 66th minute by Jessica Axt, who scored on a rebound of a missed shot that bounced off the crossbar. That would be the only goal of the game for the Raiders, thanks to Ripon goalkeeper Angelica Cooper's eight saves in the game, five of which came in the second half.

The Red Hawks will remain at home this weekend when they return to conference play, as they'll host St. Norbert College. That game will begin at 1 p.m. and will be followed by the men's contest against the Green Knights.
