Ripon Narrowly Loses To Lawrence

September 17, 2008

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. - Lawrence put the two goals on the board in Wednesday's Midwest Conference match. The Red Hawks nearly came back to tie the game, but another Viking goal in the second half sealed the game, giving Lawrence a 3-1 victory. The game was pretty even all day, with Lawrence getting off 14 shots, to Ripon's 11.

The Vikings (2-4, 2-0 MWC) had some help from the Red Hawks (1-6, 0-2 MWC) on their first goal, as Ripon scored an own goal after a cross by a Lawrence player. Twenty-nine minutes later, Lawrence scored again, with a goal from Leah Eisner-Pryor, in the 36th minute. Ripon made things interesting later in the half, when Morgan Abert found the net off a rebound from a saved shot, for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The second half started out as a defensive battle, with neither team scoring, until the 69th minute, when Lawrence put up an insurance goal from Pam Golemgski. The Red Hawks had a couple more opportunities to score late in the game, but could not convert.

Ripon will hope to convert those opportunities in their next contest, when they'll travel to Beloit on Saturday. That game will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by the men's game against the Buccaneers.
