October 15, 2008

Box Score

FOND du LAC , Wis. - Ripon scored the opening goal of their game at Marian College Wednesday night, the fifth time that they've been the first team to score this season. Unlike the other four times, the Red Hawks did not win this game, allowing two goals late in the first half, en route to a 2-1 loss to the Sabres.

Rachel Martzahl gave the Red Hawks the early lead when she took a pass from Morgan Abert and found the back of the net in the 27th minute. That lead lasted until the 38th minute, when Kim Kriese knotted the score at one. Two minutes later, Sohailia Akhavein found the net for the Sabres, giving Marian the go-ahead score.

Marian out-shot the Red Hawks 29-11 in the game. Ripon goalkeeper Angelica Cooper played all 90 minutes, recording 11 saves. Marian's Tiffany Erdman also played all 90 minutes between the pipes, saving four shots on the night.

The Red Hawks will wrap up their 2008 season this weekend, when they'll play their final two home games of the season. Ripon will host Grinnell on Saturday, before playing Knox on Sunday in their season finale. Both games will begin at 11 a.m.
