RIPON, Wis. - Ripon fell behind early on Saturday against Monmouth College and couldn't climb out of the hole, losing 6-0 at Prairie Field. The Red Hawks were out shot by the Fighting Scots 18 to seven, including a 14 to five advantage in the first half.
Monmouth (8-6-3, 4-2-2) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring their first goal just five minutes into the game, thanks to a goal by Becca Baur. They added their second goal eight minutes later when Jenny Tunberg found Sarah Kisner for the score. Niki Sue Williams then got into the action with her first goal of the game in the 33rd minute. Emily Caron capped the first half scoring with a goal four minutes before halftime, giving the Fighting Scots a 4-0 lead at the break.
The Red Hawks (3-14, 1-7) played better defensively in the second half, but not well enough to stop Williams, who added her second and third goals of the game for the only scoring in the second half. Her second goal came in the 62nd minute off a pass from Caron, while her other goal came unassisted in the 70th minute, giving her the hat trick. Ripon managed to save six shots, including four by Brenda Zastrow, while Monmouth recorded five saves in the contest.
Ripon's season will come to an end on Sunday, as they'll play Illinois College in their season finale at Prairie Field. Game time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by the men's contest against the Blueboys.
