Loss To Lakeland Decided In Second Half

September 26, 2007

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon hung tough in the first half of Wednesday's game against Lakeland, eventually taking the lead. The Red Hawks would go scoreless in the second half however, while the Muskies scored twice in the second period for a 4-2 victory.

Lakeland (2-8) wasted no time getting on the board, as they opened the scoring in the fifth minute on a goal by Gina Weiss, who was assisted by Jacqui Drexler. Ripon's Jessica Martzahl had an answer for that with a goal of her own in the 11th minute. Martzahl wasn't done there, as she netted her second goal of the day in the 26th minute. Lakeland would tie the game seven minutes later on an Alicia Malmstadt goal, sending the two teams to halftime knotted up at two.

The second half was all Lakeland, on the offensive and defensive end. Ripon (1-8), who out shot the Muskies by one in the first half, managed just one shot in the entire second period. Weiss put Lakeland in the lead for good with her second goal of the contest. Maria Santelli added another score later in the half, icing the victory for the Muskies.

The Red Hawks will try to get back on track on Saturday, when they'll travel to Northland Baptist. That contest will begin at 2:00 p.m.
