October 9, 2007

Box Score

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The Red Hawks held their own for most of Tuesday night's game at UW-Platteville, but the Pioneers used one goal just behind halftime and one goal after the intermission to defeat the Red Hawks 3-0. UW-Platteville fired three times as many shots as the Red Hawks, out shooting Ripon 21 to 7.

The Pioneers (3-7-3) scored their first goal of the game in the 14th minute off the foot of Sarah Miller, giving her three goals on the season. The two teams both played excellent defense for the remainder of the half, but UW-Platteville was able to find the back of the net just four minutes before the half. Sarah Gengler was credited with the goal, her first of the season, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Red Hawks (3-10) allowed the third goal of the game one minute and 13 seconds into the second half. Morgan Mckenzie did the honors for the Pioneers, scoring her second goal of the year. Ripon's Amber Rico made five saves in the game, including four in the first half, as she played all 90 minutes between the pipes.

Ripon will put their focus on conference play once again this weekend, as they'll travel to St. Norbert College on Saturday, before heading to California for their fall trip next week. Their game against the Green Knights is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be preceded by the men's contest.
