RIPON, Wis. - Saturday's Homecoming game between Grinnell and
Ripon was just about as lopsided as a game can get. Grinnell entered
the game having won three consecutive Midwest Conference titles,
and are undefeated in the MWC again so far this season, going a
perfect 4-0 thus far. Saturday, they showed why they've won so
many games in the recent past. The Pioneers got out to a 5-0 halftime
lead and didn't slow down, winning the game 10-0.
Ripon (2-8-1, 0-5) wasn't able to get anything going offensively
all game long. The Red Hawks did not get a single shot attempt
off all day. Grinnell (8-2-1, 5-0) on the other hand, shot at will,
attempting 36 shots on the day.
The Pioneers got things going in the 10th minute on a Sofia Skraba
goal, which was assisted by Miki Nakamura. They would score four
more times in the first half, including three scores in an eleven
minute span. The second half was more of the same, as the Pioneers
never let up. Rachel Allison, Amanda Lewis, and Frances Leslie
each finished with two goals apiece.
Ripon will try to put this game behind them, and get a chance
to redeem themselves Sunday when they host Knox College. Gametime
will begin at 11:00 a.m.
