FOND DU LAC, Wis. - After four periods and 110 minutes,
the Ripon and Marian College still couldn't decide a winner Tuesday
afternoon, as the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Each team scored one
goal apiece in the first and second period, but it was all defense
after that.
Marian (1-7-1) got on the board first, in the 13th minute, when
Brittany Perez found the back of the net off a pass from Kristi
Malizio. Ripon then tied it up 17 minutes later on a Davida Smith
goal. Smith was assisted by Michelle Ebert on the play. Ripon (2-4-1)
outshot Marian in the first period 9-5, but the score was still
tied going into the half.
Marian regained the lead early in the second period, as Trista
Michels scored on a pass from Perez, putting them up 2-1. Ripon
fought back once again though. Freshman Audra Resop scored the
first goal of her career on what was also the first shot of her
career, tying the game at 2 in the 64th minute.
The two teams played even the resto of the way. One overtime period
wasn't enough, and neither was two, meaning the game ended in Ripon's
first tie of the season. Ripon goalie Abby Bartell recorded four
saves, while Marians Sarah Schmehil had seven.
Ripon's next game will be Thursday, September 28, as they will
travel to Maranatha Baptist. Gametime is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
