PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Ripon showed improvement in their second meet of the season over the weekend, finishing seventh out of eight teams at the UW-Platteville Fall Invite. The Red Hawks shot a team score of 803, which was just six strokes out of sixth place. They finished 25 strokes in front of UW-River Falls. UW-Stevens Point won the event with a score of 681.

Ripon was led by Anne Rabacal and Amber Steichen, who each finished with a 49-over 193, which was tied for 21st place. Amanda Holdshoe wasn't far behind, in 26th place with a 199. Katie Schumacher and Amanda Peterson rounded out Ripon's score in 39th and 41st place, respectively.

"Platteville Country Club is an old-school layout with lots of hills and very fast, slightly elevated greens. That puts a premium on short-iron accuracy and putting – not our strong suits right now – and as a result we scored poorly," head coach Cody Pinkston said. "As a team we’re averaging less than three greens in regulation per round, and three players right now are averaging more than two putts per green. We may not have time this fall to turn everyone into a great iron player, but we can definitely get better with the scoring clubs."

Ripon will travel to UW-Whitewater next weekend for their next meet, in which they will hope to continue to improve. That tournament will begin on Saturday, September 13, and continue the following day.

"Every player is showing improvement in at least one area. Amber Steichen shot 44 on the back nine on Sunday, which is her best so far this season. Amanda Peterson hit 8 fairways just on Sunday, more than she hit all weekend at Eau Claire. Anne Rabacal hit 21 fairways on the weekend and averaged 1.861 putts per green. Amanda Holdshoe is hitting more greens and putted 19 percent better than last week and Katie Schumacher improved her scoring by seven percent.”
