RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks shared their hospitality with four other schools over the weekend, as they hosted the annual Ripon Invitational at Mascoutin Country Club. They were able to hold their own amongst several talented teams from Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Red Hawks finished with a team score of 771, which was 16 strokes behind Viterbo University for second place. Carroll University won the event with a score of 737. This year's event was a co-ed invitational, with Ripon's men's team finishing in second place with a 659, three strokes behind Carroll.
The Ripon women were led by Amber Steichen and Amanda Holdshoe, who each finished with a two-round score of 190. Amanda Peterson and Anne Rabacal weren't far behind, with scores of 195 and 196, respectively. Katie Schumacher was the lone Red Hawk to improve on her first round score, finishing with a total score of 212 for the tournament. Schumacher cut eight strokes off her score on the second day of competition.
Ripon's men had two of the top three individual scores at the tournament, led by Mike Moldenhauer's tournament-best 152. Rylee Berndt tied for the third-best score with a 163. Billy Kollatz also had a strong performance shooting two-strokes better on the second day of competition, for a two-round score of 166. Mike Kocher and Bill Chizek rounded out the team with scores of 178 and 182.
The Red Hawk women will be in action again on Tuesday, as they'll travel to Wrightstown, Wis. to battle St. Norbert at the SNC Invitational.
