ROCKFORD, Ill. - Ripon teed the ball up for the 2008 Midwest Conference Championships, hoping to improve on last year's seventh place finish in the event. After the first day of play, the Red Hawks find them in the exact same position, finishing seventh Thursday's round with a team score of 333, which is just three strokes behind sixth-place Lawrence University. Grinnell leads the tournament with a score of 312.
The Red Hawks were led by Mike Moldenhauer's first-round 79, which is seven-over par and good enough for 11th place individually. Rylee Berndt wasn't far behind with a score of 83, which tied for 19th, while Billy Kollatz shot an 85. Raj Pelon was fourth on the team with a score of 86.
The MWC Championships will continue on Friday, barring any unfavorable weather. With a chance of rain expected, the tournament may be continued on Saturday, which will be the final day of competition regardless of whether or not they continue play on Friday.
