ROCKFORD, Ill. - Despite shooting their highest team score of the tournament during Saturday's third round of the MWC Championships, the Red Hawk men's golf team found themselves tied for fourth place at the end of the day. Ripon shot a third-round 335, which was the second-best score of the day, and only trailed Monmouth's third-round best of 334 by a single stroke. Ripon's final team score of 997 marks their best finish in the last ten years.
Ripon's Mike Moldenhauer took third-place among individuals at the tournament, shooting a third-round score of 80, which gives him a combined score of 234. That is one stroke behind second place, and 10 out of first. Rylee Berndt also represented the Red Hawks in the top 20 individually. Berndt finished tied for 12th place with a three-round score of 248. After shooting an 83 in each of the first two-rounds, Berndt shot his tournament-best 82 on the final day of competition.
Knox College won the event, holding onto the lead, despite a final round of 338. The Prairie Fire won the tournament by six strokes over the second place Fighting Scots. Grinnell finished third, after leading the tournament after the first day of action, in which they shot a tournament-low 312. They were followed by Ripon, Carroll, and Lawrence, who each finished with a 997. St. Norbert, Illinois College, and Beloit rounded out the standings.
