RIPON, Wis. – This year’s Ripon College Red Hawk Banquet will be held
November 1, 2008 at 5 p.m.
in Great Hall, Harwood Memorial Union, on the campus of Ripon College. Festivities will begin
with a social hour, which will be followed by dinner at approximately 6 p.m. The keynote
speaker for the night will be UW-Madison Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Kathi Bennett.
Bennett has strong ties to Wisconsin, having graduated from Stevens Point Area High
School, before playing collegiate ball at UW-Stevens Point and later UW-Green Bay, where she
earned an undergraduate degree in exercise science in 1986. She served as the head coach at UW-Oshkosh
from 1989-96, which culminated in a 31-0 season and an NCAA Division-III National
Championship in her final season. After that season, Bennett was recognized as the Coach of the
Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
After her tenure at UW-Oshkosh, Bennett took over a University of Evansville program
that went 3-23 in her inaugural season. Three years later Evansville finished 23-7 in Bennett’s final
year with the team. She then took over as head coach at Indiana University, where she coached for
five years. This is Bennett’s first season with the Badgers, where she is the top assistant coach.
Bennett’s 17 year record as a head coach stands at 296-177.
Bennett is the daughter of Ripon alum and former UW-Madison men’s head basketball
coach Dick Bennett and is the sister of Washington State head coach and former UW-Green Bay
standout Tony Bennett.
Individual tickets for the banquet are $40 and may be purchased by calling (920) 748-8770.
