Ripon Falls To Conference Foe St. Norbert

December 5, 2007

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks stayed winless in conference after a 60-48 loss at the hands of the St. Norbert Green Knights. Turnovers plagued Ripon again as they committed 25, giving them a total of 53 over the last two games. The Green Knight's inside presence seemed too strong, as the Red Hawks were outscored 28-18 in the paint. This loss gives Ripon their fourth in a row.

The first half started out fairly well for the Red Hawks (0-3, 2-6). They took a 12-9 lead on a free throw by Carissa Zuercher midway through the opening period, but St. Norbert (3-0, 5-1) went on a 15-0 run. Finally a 3-pointer by Zuercher ended Ripon's six and a half minute scoring drought. For the rest of the half, a few free throws were all the Red Hawks could manage, as they trailed 32-18 entering the locker room.

The second half started out much like the first. The Green Knights would stretch their lead to 21 on a 3-pointer by Morgan Strasser at the 10:33 mark. Ripon made a late push, cutting the lead to eight on a pair of free throws by Tara Korotka in the final three minutes, but St. Norbert's free throw shooting sealed the deal.

Jessica DeHamer led the Red Hawks with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Amanda Lindauer and Ashley Meister each added nine points. Zuercher finished with eight points, to go along with six rebounds and two steals. Ripon shot a meager 31.6%, and continued their struggles at the three-point line, shooting just 1-of-6.

Cortney Biese and Strasser each had 13 points to lead the Green Knights, who finished with 27 turnovers of their own. Four players tied with eight points. St. Norbert shot 47.8% from the floor and also had a bad night from behind the 3-point line, going 3-of-16.

The Red Hawks next game will be in Texas against Centenery (NJ) at the South Padre Island Shootout. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Dec. 28.
