Ripon Scoring Woes Continue In Loss At Knox

November 30, 2007

Box Score

GALESBURG, Ill. - Knox College came out firing in Friday night's game against the Ripon, shooting 54 percent from the field to keep control of the game for the majority of the night, en route to a 61-48 victory over the Red Hawks. Ripon on the other hand, shot 29 percent in the game, as they failed to reach 50 points for the third time this season.

Ripon (2-4, 0-1) kept the game close for much of the first half, taking the lead on three separate occasions. The Red Hawks took a one point lead with 10 and a half minutes left in the first period on a layup by Amanda Lindauer, but that would be the final time Ripon would lead the rest of the way, as Knox (1-3, 1-0) took the lead right back on a pair of free throws. Knox looked like they may pull away in the waning minutes of the half, as they took their largest lead in the period of nine points, but Ripon battled back, scoring seven consecutive points. That run was capped off by a three-pointer by Carissa Zuercher, which pulled them within two with two minutes remaining. Knox would take a five-point advantage to the locker room.

The Red Hawks would whittle that lead down once more in the second half, tying the game on an Emily Meyer three-pointer, followed by a layup by Ashley Meister. That would be as close as Ripon would get the rest of the night, as Knox was able to hold the Red Hawks at arm's length the rest of the way, building a double-digit lead with just over three minutes remaining in the contest. Knox shot even better in the second half, shooting at a 56 percent clip, winning their first Midwest Conference game in their last 28 outings.

Zuercher was the lone Red Hawk in double figures, scoring 11 points, while also recording four steals. Freshman Emily Meyer added a career-high nine points and seven rebounds in the second start of her career. Meister and Jeni Yaeger each finished with six points.

Knox was led by Andie Allison's 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Freshman Madi Hanna added 14 points and seven rebounds, to go along with six blocked shots, retaining her position as the MWC's leading shot blocker. Erin Navolio chipped in with 12 points and four assists, while Kate Moon poured in nine points, while grabbing 13 boards.

Ripon will try to put this game behind them, as they'll travel to Illinois College on Saturday. That game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill. and can be seen live on www.midwestconference.tv.
