RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks came up short in their second half comeback against St. Norbert, falling 70-61. It was the fourth straight loss for Ripon, and also the fourth straight win for the Green Knights.
The game started slowly taking almost two minutes for either team to score. A pair of layups by Ellen Hake broke the tie and started a 7-0 run by the Green Knights (12-5, 9-2). Ripon (7-11, 3-8) looked out of sync in the first half, going 7-for-26 from the field. That led to a 34-19 deficit at the break.
A steal and two field goals by Christina Schneider started the second half and gave Ripon some momentum. The lead was cut to seven with 14:44 remaining after a couple of Jessica DeHamer free throws, but as they did all night St. Norbert would have a response. The Green Knights lead 45-34 until a steal and three-point field goal by reserve guard Carissa Zuercher pulled the Red Hawks within eight. Ripon eventually got within six, but turnovers and
St. Norbert free throws would seal the game.
The Red Hawks have now lost seven of their last eight games and do not want to finish the remainder of the season on a losing note. Zuercher was a huge spark off the bench, going 6-for-8 from the field and finishing with a team-high 15 points in only 12 minutes of play. Theresa Kenney led Ripon with seven rebounds and four assists.
The Green Knights continued their winning ways with the help of their Player of the Year candidate, Bianca White. White led the team in rebounds with 14, while also adding 15 points, three steals, one assist, and a block.
Ripon will look to turn things around on Friday in Jacksonville, Ill. against Illinois College in the Red Hawks first of four straight road contests. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. and will be immediately followed by the men's game.
