Red Hawks Blow Second Half Lead At Beloit
January 27, 2007
Box Score

BELOIT, Wis. - The only double digit lead by either team Saturday night came when Ripon went ahead of Beloit by 10 early in the second half. As a lot of Red Hawk games have gone this year, they were outscored in the second half, leading to Beloit's 70-65 victory.

Beloit had control of the game early, leading by as many as seven points. Ripon was able to get back into the game, thanks to a 12-0 run to end the half. The run began on a basket by Sara Gustafson and didn't stop until Mona Delsman hit a jumper to give Ripon a six point lead right before halftime.

The Red Hawks didn't let up at the start of the second half, as they took a 10-point lead on another Gustafson jumper just four minutes into the half. Ripon would hold onto the lead for the next eight minutes, but a three-pointer by Beloit's Christine Brown gave Beloit it's first lead of the half with just over seven minutes to play. A Theresa Kenney basket pulled the Red Hawks to within one point with under a minute left in the game, but Beloit was able to put the game on ice at the free throw line, as they won for the sixth time in a row.

Ripon on the other hand dropped their third straight, and sixth of seven. They were led by Delsman and JoEllen Buerger, who each scored 15 points. Kenney chipped in with 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. The Red Hawks finished the game shooting 46 percent from the floor.

Beloit's winning streak continued, thanks in part to Katie McCool's game-high 18 points. Brown and Angie Meehan each added 15 points. Brown also contributed six rebounds and six assists for the Buccaneers, who shot 48 percent from the floor.

Ripon's next game is Tuesday as they'll host St. Norbert at Storzer Center. Gametime is set for 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the men's contest with the Green Knights.
