Carroll Pulls Away From Red Hawks In Second Half
February 14, 2007
Box Score

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Ripon rounded out their four game road trip at Carroll Wednesday night, trying to split the quadrant of games.  For much of the game, it looked like they'd have a chance to pull out the 'W', but Carroll's 64 percent (14-22) shooting helped them pull away, as they defeated the Red Hawks 78-61, handing Ripon their seventh loss in their last eight games.

After trading baskets to start the game, the Pioneers (19-3, 14-1) opened up a 10 point lead with under eight minutes to play in the first half. Just when it looked like the game could get out of hand, Ripon beared down and outscored Carroll by three points the rest of the half, going into halftime with a seven-point deficit.

The Red Hawks didn't waste much time in trimming down Carroll's lead, as they got within one point on two seperate occasions. Jessica DeHamer's layup with 12 and a half minutes remaining cut the lead to a single point, one final time. The Pioneers went on to score the next 10 points, and wouldn't be challenged the rest of the game. The Pioneers led by double-digits for the final nine and a half minutes.

The Red Hawks were led by DeHamer's 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting. The freshman also added six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Theresa Kenney added 15 points and five rebounds in the losing effort.

Crystal Hoewisch led all scorers with 24 points for the Pioneers, to go along with her six rebounds and three steals. Amy Fleming chipped in with 20 points and six rebounds of her own. The Pioneers shot 86 percent (24-28) from the free throw line in the game.

Ripon will close out their season on Saturday, as they'll host Beloit College for Ripon's Senior Day at 2:00 p.m. in Storzer Center. The game will be followed by the men's contest against the Buccaneers. The day will also feature the men's and women's Alumni game, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. J.J. Jumper, the official mascot of the NCAA, will also make an appearance throughout the day.
