November 10, 2009

Full MWC Release

Sara Heim

Sr., Libero

RIPON, Wis. - On the heels of Ripon's seventh MWC Tournament appearance in eight seasons, the Red Hawks reeled in a couple individual awards Tuesday, as senior Libero Sara Heim and junior Middle Blocker Anna Alvin were chosen to the MWC All-Conference team. Heim was selected to the First Team, while Alvin made the cut for Second Team honors.

Heim broke Ripon's record for career digs this season, thanks to a conference-best 661 on the year, which is just five shy of the school record for a single season. Her digs per game average of 6.17 was an average of nearly one dig per set more than the second-best

total. The Wabasha, Minn. native also finished the season with 32 service aces, which was fourth on the team. This is the third consecutive season that Heim has been named to the All-Conference team. After making the First Team as a sophomore, she was named to the

Anna Alvin

Jr., Middle Blocker

Second Team last year.

Alvin was one of the most dominant players at the net in the conference, recording a career-best 382 kills, which ranks third among MWC players. That averages out to 3.26 kills per set and is the fifth-highest single season total in school history. The Beaver Dam product also finished in the top 10 in the MWC for service aces, registering a team-high 39, which was the fifth-highest total in the conference. In addition to those categories, Alvin also led the Red Hawks in blocks, recording a total of 78 (33 solo and 45 assists). This is Alvin's second All-Conference selection of her career, after also earning Second Team honors as a freshman.
