Red Hawks Sweep Illinois College

RIPON, Wis. - One day after losing their conference opener, the Red Hawk volleyball team was back on top with their first conference win of the season. Ripon defeated Illinois College 30-26, 30-18, 30-24 to even up their conference record after one weekend of league action. The Red Hawks dominated the defensive end of play, recording 62 digs in the three games combined, which was twice the number of digs achieved by Illinois College.

Ripon (6-7, 1-1) was led by Anna Alvin, who had a team-high eight kills, to go along with two assisted blocks. The Red Hawks hit the ball in just the right spots, recording ten service aces, including four by Alison Ernst and three apiece by Christy Looker and Amy Patton. Sara Heim led the defensive attack with 21 digs, while Looker had 10 of her own.

The Lady Blues (2-13, 0-2) were led by Angela Siebers' game-high 10 kills. Kelly Van Gennip added 19 assists, while Clarissa Edge had a team-high 13 digs. Illinois College committed ten return errors, while Ripon had just one. Ripon won the blocking battle with eight team blocks, while Illinois College recorded two.

Ripon will be back in action on Friday, as they'll travel to Grinnell College to face the Pioneers. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and all the action can be seen via webcast at www.midwestconference.tv.
