RIPON, Wis. - For one game against Edgewood College, it looked like Ripon would coast to victory, but Edgewood put up a fight, winning the final three games to defeat the Red Hawks 24-30, 30-28, 30-27, 32-30. The two teams went back and forth all night, but Edgewood got the bounces when it mattered, en route to victory.
The Red Hawks (4-5) were led by Ashley Schertz and Anna Alvin, who each had a team-high 10 kills. Schertz also led the team in blocks with eight, including two solo. Amy Patton added nine kills to go along with 27 digs. Sara Heim produced 33 digs, while Mary Friend and Alison Ernst combined for 39 assists on the night. The Red Hawks peaked in the third game when they recorded an attack percentage of .117. That wasn't good enough however, as Edgewood (1-8) won the final three games by a combined seven points.
Ripon will be in action again this weekend, with the beginning of conference action. The Red Hawks open the conference season on Friday against Monmouth at 7:00 p.m., before playing Illinois College the following day. Both games will be held at Storzer Center and will be broadcast live on www.midwestconference.tv.
