Red Hawks Win Sixth Consecutive Match

FOND du LAC, Wis. - The Red Hawk volleyball team continued to roll Tuesday night, winning their sixth match in a row, defeating Marian College (WI) in four games, 30-16, 29-31, 30-12, 30-21. Ripon's current win streak is the longest since the Red Hawks won seven straight in 2004.

Anna Alvin came up huge for the Red Hawks Tuesday night, fresh off being named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week. Against Marian, Alvin recorded game-highs of 17 kills and nine blocks, while also collecting two service aces. Jeni Yaeger and Ashley Schertz each chipped in up front, with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Mary Friend and Alison Ernst did an outstanding job of setting those players up, as they combined for 48 assists. The Red Hawks weren't any better than in the third game, which they won 30-12. In that game, Ripon pounded out 19 kills, while making just two attack errors, giving them a .415 attack percentage, which is a season-high for a single match. The Red Hawks finished with the match with 64 kills, which was 20 more than Marian.

The Sabres were led by Heather Alft's team-high 16 kills and two service aces. Katrina Costello led all players with a game-high 31 digs, while Jamie Mau and Courtney Leiteritz combined for 31 assists. Marian recorded six team blocks, compared to 13 for the Red Hawks.

Ripon will try for seven in a row this weekend, as they'll take part in the Clarke College Invitational Tournament in Dubuque, Iowa. They will face Clarke and UW-Superior on Friday, before taking on Alverno College (WI) and Ashford University (IA) in the second day of the two-day event.
