Ripon Coasts past Prairie Fire

GALESBURG, Ill. - For the second time in as many days, the Ripon College volleyball team had no problem with a conference foe. The Red Hawks defeated Knox College 30-15, 30-12, 30-12 Saturday afternoon, taking sole possession of third place in the Midwest Conference.

The Red Hawks (8-7, 3-1) were dominant from the get-go, recording 35 kills, 15 service aces, and 50 digs combined in their three games. Ashley Schertz led Ripon with nine kills, to go along with a .350 attack percentage. Amy Patton finished with seven kills and six digs. Alison Ernst finished with five service aces and nine assists, while Mary Friend recorded a game-high 19 assists.

Knox (0-17, 0-4) couldn't get anything going all match long, thanks to committing 23 attack errors, to go along with 15 reception errors. The Prairie Fire were led by Adrienne Doubet and Ashley Konicki, who finished the match with six and four kills, respectively. Karen Frost led Knox with eight assists, while Cheyenne Cortez finished with a team-high 11 digs.

Ripon has now won three matches in a row. They'll go for number four in a row on Thursday, as they'll host Lake Forest College. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Storzer Center and can be seen via webcast at www.midwestconference.tv.
