Red Hawks Take Down Grinnell

RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon College volleyball team won their second consecutive conference match Friday night, disposing of Grinnell College in three games. The Red Hawks defeated the Pioneers 30-20, 30-25, 30-18 to remain in the upper half of the conference standings.

Ripon (7-7, 2-1) was led by Jeni Yaeger's team-high seven kills and four blocks. Amy Patton was strong in nearly every part of her game, recording six kills, four service aces, and a team-high 12 digs. Ripon garnered 13 service assists as a team, including a team-high six from Christy Looker. Mary Friend and Alison Ernst combined for 29 assists in the match. Ernst also recorded three kills on four attempts.

The Pioneers (1-14, 0-3) were held back by errors all night long. Grinnell committed 21 attack errors, while also recording eight service errors and 11 return errors. One bright spot for the Pioneers was the play of Elizabeth Davis, who had match-highs of 12 kills and 17 digs. Davis finished the match with a .308 attack percentage. Erin Labasan finished with a match-high 25 assists in the losing effort.

Ripon will continue their weekend road trip tomorrow afternoon in Galesburg, Ill., as they'll travel to Knox to take on the Prairie Fire. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m. and can be seen via webcast at www.midwestconference.tv.
