RIPON, Wis. - In what seemed to be a bit of deja vu from the previous day, the Ripon volleyball team split a pair of matches, winning the first convincingly, before dropping the second. The Red Hawks defeated Clarke College (IA) in the first match of the day, winning 30-22, 30-24, 30-27. Their second match of the day was quite the opposite of their first, losing to tournament champion St. Mary's University (MN), 21-30, 25-30, 19-30.
Jeni Yaeger led the Red Hawks against Clarke, scoring nine kills. Freshman Anna Alvin added six kills of her own, on her way to a .429 hitting percentage for the match. The Ripon defense was strong all game, getting 95 combined digs, 27 of which came via Sara Heim. Mary Friend and Alison Ernst combined for 27 assists.
The second match of the day didn't go as well, as the Red Hawks were forced into 25 attack errors., while recording just 17 kills for a negative hitting percentage. Alvin finished with a team-high five kills. Heim and Christy Looker combined for 32 digs, while Mary Friend recorded 13 assists.
Yaeger was recognized at the conclusion of the tournament with a selection to the All-Tournament team. She was the lone Red Hawk with that recognition. St. Mary's (MN) was the only team to have two players named to the team.
Ripon will be back in action Tuesday, as they'll take their show on the road to face off against Wisconsin Lutheran. Game time will begin at 7:00 p.m.
