Grinnell, Iowa - The Red Hawks traveled to Grinnell over the weekend
to play in their first of two crossover tournaments this year.
This also marked their first conference games of the season. Ripon
was able to win their first contest on Saturday, but dropped their
next two.
In their first match, the Red Hawks defeated Grinnell 30-20, 34-32,
30-13. Mary Friend had an outstanding match, recording 40 of Ripon's
41 assists. Christy Looker finished with 14 kills and seven service
aces. Tamrah Collins recorded 18 kills for Grinnell.
In their second game of the day, the Red Hawks put up a fight,
but lost to Lake Forest. Each game was tightly contested with no
game being won by more than three points. The Foresters won 30-28,
31-29, 28-30, 30-27. Friend finished with 36 assists in the match,
while Christy Looker and Amy Patton combined for 27 kills. Janelle
Balcerzak led teh Foresters with 22 kills.
In their third game of the Crossover tournament, Ripon lost to
Illinois College 22-30, 23-30, 26-30, dropping the Red Hawks record
to 8-9 overall and 1-2 in the Midwest Conference. Ripon was led
by Jessica Chatmon's nine kills and Friend's 26 assists. Illinois
College recorded 48 kills in the match, as they were led by Angela
Siebers' 18.
Ripon will be in action once again on Friday, as they'll travel
to conference foe Beloit College. Gametime is set for 7:00 p.m.
