February 10, 2007

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Red Hawks traveled to Stevens Point on Saturday, hoping for a good showing in what was one of the largest meets of the season. The women's competition featured 13 additional teams, while the men went up against nine other squads. In the end, both the men and women came away, tied for eighth place.

The women's best finish was in the one mile run, where Brittany Dick placed fifth with a time of 5:24.70. Dick, who earned four points in the event, finished 19 seconds behind the winner. In the field events, Jenni Marcell earned the best finish, as she was fifth in the weight throw, with a distance of 43-10.00. The women's team finished just two points behind eighth place UW-LaCrosse. The Red Hawks earned more points than three other Midwest Conference schools (Knox, St. Norbert, Lawrence).

The men's team was led by Demba Camara, who continues to have a good season. Camara placed in the top three in two different events. In the long jump, Camara earned a third place finish with a distance of 20-00.50.  He then went on to finish second in the triple jump, with a distance of 43-07.00, which was just one and a half feet behind the winner of the event. The Red Hawks were just one point behind eighth place, while finishing in front of Midwest Conference foe Beloit College.

Next up for the Red Hawks will be UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. The UW-Oshkosh Invitational will begin at 10:30 a.m.
