Red Hawks Open Indoor Season At Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - Ripon matched up against several quality teams Saturday, including three other Midwest Conference squads, and were able to hold their own. The men's team finished eighth out of fifteen teams, while the women placed fourth, also out of 15 teams.

The men racked up 22.5 total points, finishing 4.5 behind UW-Parkside. Jim Hein earned the highest place of anyone on the team, finishing second in the mile with a time of 4:37.27. Demba Camara also had a good finish, placing fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 42-11.25. Camara didn't stop there, as he also placed seventh in hte long jump with a distance of 20-1.25. Cas Moelling and Paul Williams also placed in their respective events. Moelling finished fifth in the pole vault, while Williams tied for eighth in the high jump. Williams also teamed up with Brian Felix, Aaron Kammer, and Mike Treder for a sixth place finish in the 4x400 relay. North Central (IL) won the meet with 211.50 points.

The Red Hawk women finished the meet with 62 points, 34 behind third place Carroll College. The weight throw turned out to be Ripon's most successful event on the day. Jenni Marcell finished second in the event with a distance of 42-5.5 feet, while Sally Corey and Shannon Henderson finished fourth and eighth, respectively. Corey and Marcell also placed in the high jump, as they finished fourth and fifth in the event. Marcell didn't stop there, as she also placed in the shot put, throwing the shot 37-7.5 feet. Jessica Davey and Erin Beggs each had second place finishes in the 3K and 5K runs, respectively. Rebecca Duley finished in third place, 30 seconds behind Beggs in the 5K. Angie Hein finished sixth in the Mile Run, while Latasha Carter finished third in the 55 Meter Dash. Carter also finished sixth in the 200, while also teaming with Hein, Jolene Rueden, and Jill Jones to finish eighth in the 4x400 Relay. North Central (IL) also won the women's meet with 143 total points.

Ripon will be in action again Friday at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. That meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 in Oshkosh, Wis.
