Ripon Opens Season At Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - Ripon got its 2010 track season underway on Saturday with the Carthage Private College Invitational. In the men's competition, Ripon finished fourth out of 12 teams, while taking seventh place out of 12 in the women's meet.

The Ripon men were led by Jamie Reese and Kyle Roy, who each earned second place finishes in their respective events. In the long jump, Reese recorded a jump of 21.78 feet, while Roy threw the shot put 46.5 feet. Roy also took third in the weight throw with a throw of 51.9 feet. Also finishing third was Max Bellmore, who recorded a jump of 6.14 feet in the high jump. Ripon's 4x200 relay team of Reese, Matt Wood, Jayson Krause and Majid Abdoulmoumine also fared well, finishing second with a time of 1:35.91.

In the women's competition, Michelle Matter had the best day for the Red Hawks. The freshman took first in the 5K with a time of 19:30.75 and third in the 3K with a time of 11:16.70. Ripon dominated the 5K run, as Katie Williams and Laura Reuling also finished in the top five of the event at fourth and fifth place, respectively. Williams' time was 21:57.96, while Reuling ran a time of 22:03.37.

The Red Hawks will travel to UW-Oshkosh for a meet on Friday, which will begin at 5 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
