Ripon Tunes Up Before Conference Meet

MADISON, Wis. - The Ripon track and field team competed in their final meet before next weekend's Midwest Conference Championships, as they took part in the Badger Open on Saturday. In the unscored event, Ripon placed in the top three in eight events, while finishing first in two of them.

Both first place finishes came from the women's team, as Trisha Jones and Heidi Baerenwald did the honors. Jones won the triple jump with a distance of 34-08.50, while Baerenwald placed first in the shot put with a distance of
45-07.75. Alaina Nesbitt was also successful, finishing second in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:05.61. Nesbitt also teamed up with Jones, Nikki Weichbrod and Brittany Dick to place third in the 4x400 Relay with a time of 4:24.75. Weichbrod took another third place finish in the 400 Meters, finishing just behind Nesbitt with a time of 1:08.31. Jessica Davey also placed in the top three in her event, finishing third in the 1500 Meters with a time of 5:02.80.

The Ripon men were led by Kyle Roy who was the only Red Hawk to finish in the top three in the men's competition. He did so twice, placing second in both the shot put (47-08.50) and Hammer Throw (149-04). Roy also took seventh in the Disc with a throw of 129-09. Jason Smith took home a fourth place finish in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:02.25.

The Red Hawks will now turn their focus to next weekend's Midwest Conference Championships, which will be held at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis. The meet will begin Friday, and conclude on Saturday.
