Men Finish Ninth, Women 11th At Pointer Invitational

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Ripon once again faced some of the toughest competition in the Midwest at Saturday's UW-Stevens Point Invitational, competing against five state schools, and a few other schools from the Midwest Conference, among others. When the dust settled, the Red Hawk men finished in ninth place out of 16 teams, while the women's team was 11th out of 14.

The Ripon men was led by Max Bellmore, who had two individual top-four finishes. The freshman placed thrid in the high jump with a height of 6-04, while also placing fourth in the triple jump, with a distance of 41-11.25. Bellmore also ran a leg in Ripon's third place 4x200 relay. He joined Bakary Dao, Abdoul Madjid, and Jamie Reese, to run a time of 1:35.93. The Red Hawks earned 23 team points at the meet, which was won by UW-Stevens Point.

The women's team managed to score 11 team points in a meet that was won by UW-Oshkosh. Ripon had two top-four finishes on the day, with the DMR team of Jessica Davey, Whitney Levash, Rebecca Duley, and Amanda Beers earning the highest finish of the day with a third-best time of 14:12.04. Jenni Marcell also had a nice day, finishing fourth in the shot put, throwing it just a shade under 40 feet, nine inches.

Ripon will now focus on next weekend's Midwest Conference Championships. That meet will begin on Friday, and continue into Saturday and will be hosted by Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill.
