OSHKOSH, Wis. - The men's and women's track teams each achieved their season best place at Saturday's UW-Oshkosh Invitational, as they both placed in the top four out of 11 and nine teams, respectively. The men placed third in the team competition, with 79.5 points, while the women were fourth, finishing with 38 team points.
The Red Hawk men were led by Jim Hein, who broke the three-year-old school record in the one-mile run. Hein's time of 4:21.22 gave the Ripon men their only first-place finish of the day, while also nipping Dave Billings' school record by a single second. Bakary Dao and Bob Wood each took home second-place finishes in the 55 meter dash and 55 meter hurdles, respectively. Dao ran a time of 6.76, while Wood finished his race with a time of 8.23. Kyle Roy gave the Red Hawks a second-place finish in the shot put. His distance of 44-04 was just two inches behind the winner of the event.
The Ripon women were dominant in the 3000 meter run, with two of the top three runners in the event. Jessica Davey took second with a time of 11:11.06, while Rebecca Duley was eight seconds behind her with a time of 11:19.84. Duley and Davey also combined with Erin Beggs and Amy Krueger to finish first in the DMR, with a time of 14:19.24. Jenni Marcell also fared well for the Red Hawks, placing fourth in the shot put, earning five points for the Red Hawks.
Ripon will have one final tune-up before the conference championships, as they'll take part in next weekend's meet at UW-Stevens Point. That meet will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 23rd.
