KENOSHA, Wis. - The men's and women's track and field teams began their season's in very similar fashion Saturday in their season-opening meet to kick off the indoor season at the Private College Invitational at Kenosha, Wis. The men's team finished fifth out of 15 teams at the meet, while the women's team also finished fifth, out of 14 schools.
The men finished with 57 points, which tied them for fifth with Midwest Conference foe St. Norbert College. The Red Hawks had four individuals finish in the top three of their respective events. Jim Hein continued his successes from the cross country season by finishing second in the one-mile run with a time of 4:34.59. Bakary Dao also had a great start to the season by winning the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.71, which was a tenth of a second faster than the second place runner. Ripon's Bob Wood and Max Bellmore also finished in the top three of their respective events, Wood finished second in the 55 meter hurdles, while Bellmore placed third in the triple jump.
The women also had a couple of individuals in the top three of their respective events. Jenni Marcell led the way with a third place finish in the shot put, while also winning the women's weight throw. Jessica Davey also placed in the top three in the 5000 meter run, finishing second with a time of 20:26.78. Erin Beggs and Laura Rueling finished fourth and fifth, respectively in that event, as well.
The Red Hawks will try to improve on their performances next weekend, as they'll travel to UW-Oshkosh for a meet on Friday, January 25. That meet will begin at 5:00 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
