Men And Women Each Finish Sixth At MWC Championships

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Red Hawk men's and women's track and field teams experienced identical sixth place finishes at this weekend's Midwest Conference Championships. The men's team scored 50 team points, which was 32 behind the fifth-best team, while the women produced 45 team points, just 14 out of fifth.

The men's team was led by Alex Tomsheck, who finished with a team-best second-place finish in the high jump with a height of 6-03.25. Tomsheck was also fourth in the high hurdles with a time of 16.33. Max Bellmore was the only other Red Hawk with two top six finishes, taking third and sixth in the high jump and triple jump, respectively. Bob Wood finished just behind Tomsheck in the high hurdles with a time of 16.33.

In the women's competition, Jenni Marcell earned three top-four finishes, while finishing fifth in another event. The senior placed second in both the hammer and shot put, while placing fourth and fifth in the disc and javelin, respectively. Jessica Davey took fourth in an event as well, running the 5,000 meters in 18:53.61. She was also able to take fifth in the 1500 with a time of 5:01.19.

The Red Hawks will now have a couple Last Chance meets, beginning with one on Tuesday, which will give several athletes the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships on May 22-24.
