STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Saturday's Eastbay Invitational was loaded with high-quality teams and athletes from some very strong Division-III programs. Ripon hung right with them in some events, as the men finished eighth and the women picked up a 12th place finish.
The men's team was led by freshman Max Bellmore, who had the highest finish of the day from any Ripon athlete. Bellmore finished third in the high jump, with a distance of 1.86 meters, earning the Red Hawks six team points. Jim Hein was in the top four of his event as well, finishing fourth in the 3000 yard run with a time of 8:50.52. Demba Camara also had a successful day, finishing fifth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump.
The Red Hawk women had just one athlete finish in the top seven of their respective event(s). Erin Beggs earned a seventh place finish in the 5000 yard run with a time of 20:42, earning two team points for the Red Hawks.
Ripon will try to build on their successes this season next week when they'll travel to Oshkosh to compete at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. That meet will begin at 10:30 a.m.
