Red Hawks Wrap Up Season Nicely At MWC Championships

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon College extended their hospitality to the rest of the Midwest Conference over the weekend, as they were host to the MWC Championships. In the two day event, Ripon's men finished sixth, which is where they finished during the indoor season, while the women finished fourth, improving three spots on their indoor finish.

The Men's team finished with 40 total team points, just one point ahead of Beloit College. The Red Hawks were led by Demba Camara, who was the only athlete on the men's team to finish in the top three in an event, finishing third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.72 meters. Camara also earned a fourth place finish in the long jump. Monmouth won the men's competition with a team score of 307.5.

The Red Hawk women were a little more successful, scoring 88 total points as a team, which was just five behind third-place Beloit College. Ripon finished in the top three in six different events over the weekend. Brittany Dick led the way with a Midwest Conference record time in the 3000 meter steeplechase, running it in 11:16.11. Dick also finished third in the 3000 meter run and fourth in the 800 meter run, en route to being named to the Outstanding Women's Runner Team. Jenni Marcell also had a record-setting day, breaking the conference record in the hammer throw. Marcell won the event with a throw of 141 feet, 8 inches. Marcell also finished third in the shot put and discus, while taking home fourth place in the javelin. At the conclusion of the Championships, Marcell was named to the Outstanding Women's Field Event Performer Team. Latasha Carter and Trisha Jones also placed third in their respective event. Carter ran the 100 meter dash in 12.62 seconds, while Jones ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:09.04 seconds. Monmouth won the women's competition as well, compiling 219.5 total points.

Ripon still has a couple Last Chance Meets remaining this season, in which a few individuals will compete to try to earn a spot at the National Tournament. Next weekend's Last Chance Meet is scheduled for Naperville, Ill.
