GALESBURG, Ill. - The Red Hawk men finished sixth Saturday at their final team meet of the season in the Midwest Conference Championships, while the Ripon women finished seventh in a closely contested meet. Jenni Marcell was the lone Ripon athlete to advance to nationals next weekend, marking the seventh time in the last eight NCAA Championships that a Red Hawk has advanced to the national tournament.
Ripon earned 51 total points in the two-day meet, which was just 11 shy of fifth place. Marcell had the best finish of any Red Hawk, as placed first in the shot put with a personal best throw of 43-01.75. That distance ranks 12th in the nation this season, while also setting a new school record. She broke a second school record in the weight throw, finishing third in the event with a distance of 45-09.25. For her performance, Marcell was named an MWC Field Event Performer of the Meet. Monmouth won the women's meet with 210 total points.
Other notable finishes were the team of Erin Beggs, Angie Hein, Jessica Davey, and Brittany Dick earning a second place finish in the DMR with a time of 13:14.82. Dick also finished third in the mile run with a time of 5:25.87.
The men's team finished the meet with 30 total team points, giving them a sixth place finish. Camara earned the highest finish on the Red Hawk men's team, placing third in the triple jump with a distance of 45-04.50. That breaks the 16-year old school record by seven and a half inches. Camara also finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 21-02.75. The men's team was also highlighted by a fourth place finish in the DMR. The team of Harrison Smith, Mike Treder, Aaron Kammer, and Jim Hein ran a time of 11:04.80 in the event. Monmouth also won the men's meet with a team total of 264 points.
