APPLETON, Wis. - Ripon's men's and women's swim teams each lost to a trio of teams competing at Saturday's Lawrence Quadrangular. The men fell to Carroll 136-67, before losing to Lake Forest and Lawrence by scores of 157-47 and 129-65, respectively. The Red Hawk women also lost to those three schools by scores of 144-45, 188-39 and 111-70, respectively.
Brandon Taylor swam the only top-three finish for the Ripon men's team. His 100 yard butterfly time of 58.51 was good enough for second place, less than four seconds behind the winner of the event.
The Red Hawk women were led by team captain Megan Rice, who took home a pair of top-three finishes. In the 50 yard freestyle, Rice swam a time of 26.36, which was 1.1 seconds off the pace of the winning time. She then finished third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.97, which again was less than two seconds away from winning the event. Jenni Schalla also finished third in an event, swimming a time of 1:19.05 in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Ripon has one final chance to fine-tune their performances before they compete at the conference meet. They will take part in the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Saturday, January 30. That event will begin at Noon and will take place at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
