APPLETON, Wis. - The Ripon swim team took part in the Lawrence triangular on Saturday, as they faced some stiff competition in the Vikings and Marquette University. The Red Hawks had a swimmer finish first in three events, with Jenni Schalla winning twice.
Schalla swam a time of 2:30.63 in the 200 yard IM, which was nearly two seconds ahead of the second place swimmer. She then followed that up with a first place time of 1:15.57 in the 100 yard breaststroke. That time was less than one second ahead of the second fastest time. Jessica Powell also helped the Red Hawks with a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly, while Megan Rice finished third in both the 100 and 200 yard freestyles.
The Ripon men were led by Brandon Taylor, who gave the team its only first place finish with a time of 58.92 in the 100 yard butterfly. Zach Smith also had a good day for the Red Hawks taking second in 100 yard backstroke and third in the 200 yard freestyle. Finishing in front of him in the 200 freestyle was teammate C.J. Marx, who finished the event two seconds ahead of Smith.
The Red Hawks will now take a bit of a break, as their next meet is not scheduled until January 9, when they'll travel to UW-Oshkosh. In the meantime, Ripon will host its annual Alumni Meet on December 11.
