Red Hawks Take Fourth At Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - Ripon's men's and women's swim team each finished fourth out of four teams at this weekend's Carthage Invitational. The Red Hawk men earned 404.5 team points, while the women finished with 301 total team points. Carthage won both the men's and women's competitions with team scores of 2295 and 2101, respectively.

Ripon's best showing was a seventh place finish in the women's 200 yard freestyle relay, which saw Jessica Powell, Brittany Preischel, Alexandra Martin and Megan Rice swim a time of 1:51.25, which was 13 seconds off the pace of the winning team. Rice also did well individually, finishing eighth out of 20 swimmers in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.75. She also finished 10th out of 19 competitors in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:09.42. Jessica Powell also earned a top ten finish for the Red Hawks, finishing ninth in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.91, which was just six seconds off the pace of the second-place swimmer.

The Ripon men's team was led by Brandon Taylor, who recorded a ninth place finish out of 17 swimmers in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.17. Taylor also swam a 500 yard freestyle time of 5:26.88 for 12th place in the event and a time of 24.12 in the 50 yard freestyle, which was two seconds off the winner's pace. Austin McNeal also had a good showing for the Red Hawks, finishing 11th in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:02.86. Ripon's 200 yard freestyle relay team of Taylor, CJ Marx, Trenton Cherco and Dan Miles took eighth in the event with a time of 1:38.88.

The Red Hawks will now take some time off, with their next event scheduled for January 9 at UW-Oshkosh. The Ripon Alumni Meet will be held Saturday, December 12 at 10 a.m.
