BELOIT, Wis. - Ripon's men and women each finished third out of three teams at Beloit on Saturday. The Red Hawk men scored 43 total team points, while Ripon's women scored 40 points. Beloit won the men's competition, with Carroll University taking the women's meet.
The Red Hawk women were led by Megan Rice and Jenni Schalla, who were the only Ripon swimmers to win an event. Rice took first in the 200 yard freestyle, winning by four seconds with a time of 2:11.37. Schalla also earned a first-place finish with a time of 2:45.85 in the 200 yard breaststroke, which was six seconds better than the next-best time. Schalla also finished third in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:19.14. In the 500 yard freestyle, Ripon had two of the top three finishers, with Sara Laws taking second and Aimee Kaczmarek taking third. Also taking home a third-place finish was Katie Corbett, who swam a time of 2:30.92 in the 200 yard backstroke. Ripon's 400 yard freestyle relay team of Corbett, Rice, Kaczmarek and Brittany Preischel also fared well, finishing second with a time of 4:12.06.
Ripon's men had two of the top three finishers in a pair of events. In the 200 yard backstroke, Zach Smith finished in second place, one second behind the winner, with Bill Rodgers taking third. That was followed by the 500 yard freestyle, which saw Brandon Taylor finish second, with Bruce Kukowski one place behind him. Austin McNeal also fared well, finishing second in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:07.54. Also taking a third-place finish was C.J. Marx, who swam a time of 2:04.06 in the 200 yard freestyle. Ripon also fared well in their relays, taking second in both the 400 Yard Medley and 400 Yard Freestyle Relays.
The Red Hawks will now get ready for a meet at Lawrence University on Saturday, which will begin at 1 p.m. in Appleton.
