WAUKESHA, Wis. - Friday night's double dual at Carroll University ended with Ripon's men's and women's teams each defeating two of their three opponents. The Red Hawk men defeated fellow Midwest Conference schools Beloit, 111-56, and Carroll, 94-70, before falling to Marquette 117-61. The women's team had similar success, defeating Beloit 95-79, and Marquette, 97-73, but losing against Carroll 104-73.
Ripon's men's team only had one swimmer take home a first-place finish, as Zach Smith did the honors in the 200 freestyle, with a time of 2:03.78 which was five seconds better than second place. Smith took home second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:20.87, which was followed by fellow Red Hawk Austin McNeal's time of 2:25.53. Lucas Ebert also fared well, finishing second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.22. The Red Hawk 200 freestyle relay team of McNeal, Matt Stensberg, C.J. Marx and Bill Rodgers narrowly missed a first-place finish, placing second with a time of 1:40.62, just two-seconds off the lead.
Amy Jones and Megan Rice each took first place in their respective events for the Red Hawk women. Jones won the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.19, to go along with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Rice's time of 59.12 gave her first place in the 100 freestyle. Katie Corbett also earned some points for the Ripon team, placing second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:29.68. Jenni Schalla finished second in both the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM. The Red Hawk 200 freestyle relay team of Jones, Rice, Jessica Powell and Shannon Colburn also had some success, winning the event with a time of 1:52.06.
Next weekend, the Red Hawks will compete at the Lawrence Relays in Appleton, Wis. That meet will begin Saturday at 1 p.m.
