OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Ripon men's and women's swim teams headed up the road to Oshkosh on Saturday to take part in the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. Both teams ended the meet with good showings, as the men finished third out of six teams and the women came in fifth place in the seven team field.
The Red Hawk men combined to score 413 points, which was nearly 100 points more than Midwest Conference rival Lawrence University. Ripon was led by C.J. Wagner, who gave them their only win of the day, as he finished first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.79, edging UW-Oshkosh's Nic Cole by one second. Wagner also finished second in the 200 yard backstroke, as his time of 2:07.18 was seven seconds off the pace of the first-place swimmer. Parker Heaps also had a decent day, finishing third in both the 1000 and 500 yard freestyles. Heaps finished with times of 10:51.03 and 5:18.15, respectively, in those events.
Ripon's women's team scored 280 team points in the meet, which was 5.5 behind fourth place Lawrence University. The Red Hawks also finished 44 points behind third-place team Principia College. Ripon was led by Katie Corbett and Jenni Schalla, who both gave the team their highest finish in an event, each finishing in fourth place of their respective events. Corbett swam a time of 2:27.69 in the 200 yard backstroke, while Schalla finished with a time of 2:43.71 in the 200 yard breaststroke.
The Red Hawks will now take some time to relax during winter break, but before they can do that, they'll have some fun at the Ripon College Alumni Meet, which will be held Friday, December 7th at 6:00 p.m. in Storzer Center. Ripon's next intercollegiate meet will be January 12th at the Carroll College Invitational in Waukesha, Wis.
