WUAKESHA, Wis. - The Ripon swim team was back in action Saturday after a month long hiatus, as they competed in a double dual at Carroll College. The men's team won one of their three matches, while the women came away victorious in two of their three.
Beloit got the best of Ripon early in the day, defeating the Red Hawks 114-56. Ripon then dropped their next match to Carroll College, who finished 3-0 on the day. The Pioneers defeated Ripon handily, 116-49. Ripon ended the day on a positive note though, defeating Eureka College 80-24. Parker Heaps had the best individual finish for the men, finishing first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.12, while also winning the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:23.55.
The women's team fared slightly better than the men, picking up two wins. The Red Hawks defeated Beloit 101-93 before dropping their match to Carroll 115-70. The Pioneer women won all three of their matches as well. The Red Hawks rounded out the day by beating up on Eureka College 134-13. The Ripon women dominated the 500 yard freestyle, as the top three finishers were all Red Hawks. Shannon Colburn was first, followed by Nicole Franz and Laura Yunger. Jenni Schalla also placed first for Ripon in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.33.
Ripon will now travel to Lawrence University next Saturday for an invitational in Appleton, Wis. That meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
