APPLETON, Wis. - The Ripon Men's team squared off against three fellow Midwest Conference schools on Saturday at the Lawrence Relays, while the women's team faced four other MWC teams. In the end, both teams earned the same finish, coming in fourth place at the meet.
The men's team finished with 164 team points. Their strongest event came in the 200 freestyle. The Red Hawks finished just four seconds behind Lawrence, with a time of 1:44.77. The team consisted of Parker Heaps, Rich Heitkamp, Severin Larsen, and Bruce Kukowski. The men's team also placed second in the 500 yard freestyle, as the team of Kukowski, Heitkamp, Ryan Hendricks, and Heaps swam a time of 4:51.27.
The women fared just as well as the men, finishing fourth out of five teams with 310 points, which was 84 behind third place Carroll College. The Red Hawk women fared well at a couple different events. The team of Jenni Schalla, Shannon Colburn, and Becca LaClair placed second in the 300 yard butterfly relay, swimming a time of 3:36.37. The Red Hawks also earned second place in the 400 yard medley relay. The team of Erin Oakley, Shalla, Colburn, and Amy Jones swam a time of 4:46.79, finishing behind the meet's winner, Lawrence University.
Ripon will take next weekend off, before getting back in the pool on Friday, December 1, as they'll compete in a meet at UW-Oshkosh.
