Appleton, Wis. - Jonny Gausewitz blew away the field to take first
place in the 200 IM at the MWC Championships on Friday night. Emmy
Giovanni led the women with a second place finish in the 500 free.
After one full day of competition, the men are in fourth place
with 166 points and the women are in fifth with 137.5.
Gausewitz defeated the second place finisher by over two seconds
to win the 200 IM in a time of 1:56.38. Other men's top-five finishes
included a third place for Parker Heaps in the 500 free (4:52.17)
and a third for the 400 relay team consisting of Brian Macak, Gausewitz,
Heaps and Ryan Hendricks.
For the women, Giovanni took second in the 500 free in a time
of 5:18.39. The 200 free relay team of Melissa Will, Becca LaClair,
Erin Oakley and Giovanni took fourth and the 400 relay with the
same competitors took fifth. Will also tied for fourth in the 50
free.
