CLEREMONT, Fla. - The Red Hawks ended their spring trip with a loss on Friday, losing for the fifth time in the past six games. Ripon built a 2-0 lead, but couldn't hold it, as they gave up three in the fifth inning, which sealed their fate.
Ripon (4-5) got on the board early, scoring once in the top of the first. They inning was started by a walk to Natalie Geenen, who would later score on a two-out single by Andrea Knorr. The Red Hawks added a run in the third inning, when the rally was once again started by Geenen, who tripled to lead it off. She would score her second run on an RBI single by Krista Shafer.
Westfield State (4-3) finally got into the action in the bottom of the fifth. The first three batters of the inning reached base, and they would all score, one on a Red Hawk error, and the other two on a fielder's choice.
The Red Hawks managed just three hits in the game, coming off the bats of Geenen, Shafer, and Knorr. Knorr also took the loss on the mound, despite striking out six batters in 5.2 innings.
Ripon will now have two weeks off before getting back into action on March 29th at the Augustana (IL) Invitational. They will play two games that day, the first against Augustana, and the second against Millikin (IL).
