Box Score vs. Penn State-Behrend

CLEREMONT, Fla. - Ripon's softball team couldn't had hoped for a better start to the 2008 season than they got on Sunday. The Red Hawks defeated University of Rochester and Penn State-Behrend, both of whom has been to the NCAA Tournament during one of the past two seasons. Ripon took down Rochester 6-2 in the first game of the day, before getting the best of PSU-Behrend 5-2 in their second game.

Ripon wasted no time getting the 2008 season started. The first batter of the year, reigning Midwest Conference North Player of the Year, Natalie Geenen, showed a possible sign of things to come, hitting a homerun to lead off the first inning against Rochester. In addition to the home run, Geenen finished the game with two RBI and two runs scored, going 3-for-4 in the game. Andrea Knorr picked up the win in that opening game.

Catcher Jessica Goudrea was the star in Ripon's 5-2 win against Penn State-Behrend, going 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and one run scored. Freshman Brittnee Peotter began her collegiate career on the right foot, picking up the win in the first appearance of her career.

The Red Hawks will be in action again Monday with a pair of games on the schedule at the National Training Center in Cleremont, Fla. They'll face Daniel Webster College (NH) at 9:30 a.m. EDT, before taking on The College of New Jersey at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
